Today (June 6) marks the 25th anniversary of Tetris, the classic computer game which is still being played every day by millions of people. It may be old but it’s still good, and as always addictive as hell.
Being in my early thirties, gaming is in my blood. I am of that generation that grew up as computer and video games were also growing up. And Tetris stands out as one of those games which was important for getting the industry where it is today.
We may all now play our graphically amazing, big budget game on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii, but Tetris still entertains despite being about as simple a game as you can get. It’s this simplicity which has allowed it to remain at the top of the puzzle game genre for a quarter of a century.
This video shows someone (not me) reaching level 20 of the original version of the game on the original Game Boy. It’s a feat I never achieved but then maybe I’m just rubbish. I wonder if this guy still plays Tetris?
