Congratulations for the filmmakers of the Jackie Robinson biopic! Its debut estimated $9.1 million from 3,003 locations this Friday. With stats like these, its easily one of the top baseball movies of our time by being ahead of “The Benchwarmers” ($6.8 million) and “Moneyball” ($6.7 million). There’s no reason to say it isn’t so as the movie is set for around $25 million for the three-day frame, which would make it the first baseball movie ever to open north of $20 million.
For those who don’t know the summary of the movie: This is the life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey (played by Harrison Ford).
The only thing I don’t care for…why does Jay-Z’s song about cocaine and robbing people have to do with this? Just because that’s a big song made by a famous black artist does not mean these two things must go together. Yes, Hollywood, is in fact, a shit show.
