Michale Bay’s version of A Nightmare on Elm Street came out this weekend after much anticipation and hype. Unfortunately, like most remakes, the new film isn’t pleasing most old fans.
As one critic states in this Spill.com review, “My nightmares are a lot cooler than this bullshit!”
While there are a lot of special effects, fire, and explosions, the story gets dull after some very repetitive kills. Unlike the original Freddy Krueger, the way that the director relies on scaring the audience is through cheap jump-scares and loud screams from inexperienced actors.
The best aspect of the entire movie is the new take on Freddy’s origin and possibly the new cover song. I don’t know about you but I can’t take a horror movie seriously where lines like, “You really shouldn’t fall asleep in class,” are mentioned.
