Abbey Lincoln died at the age of 80, passing away in a nursing home in Manhattan, New York. Her career spanned more than 30 years, and included films and civil rights campaigning as well as the music she’s famous for.
Lincoln was born as Anna Marie Wooldridge in 1930, she adopted a stage name and started singing. She hit the big time in the 1950s and 1960s, recording several notable albums and also appearing in films with Sidney Poitier.
Abbey Lincoln will be long remembered for her achievements in several fields. So although it’s sad to hear of her passing, listen to her singing and remember her incredible talents.
