The Academy Awards 2011 nominations are in and well, they’re pretty much as everyone was expecting with the possible exception of a few names being left out of the frame.
The big winner in terms of nominations is The King’s Speech, which picked up 12 nods in all. True Grit is just behind on 10, while both Inception and The Social Network managed eight apiece.
It should be expected that those four films take home the bulk of the Oscars on the night, but there is usually one or two twist which sees someone take home a statuette despite the odds.
Although I’m kind of interested to see who wins and loses, I do think too much is made of the Academy Awards. The people involved in making movies get paid a ton of money for doing something they love, and then we give them awards for doing a good job. Isn’t that a little mental?
