I do not understand the reaction this comment got. You are allowed to hate the country you live in, and bitch and moan about at will. It doesn’t make you a bad person.
This is especially true of the United States, which has a constitution guaranteeing you the right to free speech. And yet Adam Levine was forced to apologize over uttering four words.
This is nationalism, pure and simple. And it’s shown up as being even more bizarre when it’s patently obvious Levine made the remark in a jokey, off the cuff manner. He wasn’t speaking literally.
