In case you haven’t heard, Hollywood is remaking Akira, the classic manga film which inspired a whole generation, and made anime popular in the west.
Rather than remaking the film as an animation, Warner Bros. has decided to remake the 1988 movie as a live action movie, with Leonardo DiCaprio starring. Great, I can’t wait.
When this idea was first mooted, many fans of the original were aghast at the thought of their favorite film being shoddily remade with American sensibilities, and one fan attempted to make his version of how he thinks the new movie will turn out.
As you can see in the above YouTube video, this version could suck ass, by having advertising everywhere, and changing the plot to turn the main characters into a bunch of well-behaved American teens.
Thankfully, it doesn’t look as though this dystopian classic is going to be ruined, because the script has now been leaked online, and the general consensus of opinion is positive. Could Hollywood be about to actually manage a remake without messing it up? Keep your fingers crossed.
