When The Black Eyed Peas released My Humps, it was a provocative, hook-laden groovefest. Now Alanis Morissette has turned the track on its head with this very different cover version.
The lyrics are still as sexy, and often silly, as ever. The film clip still has the obligatory pimps and bling. But the melody is now poignant and haunting, a tender and even romantic ditty.
The funny thing is, it actually works. I was never a fan of the original hip-hop track, but I’d definitely listen to this. Perhaps Alanis could remake some more popular but appalling chart toppers. I think she’d do an excellent version of Rihanna’s Umbrella, for starters.
