I’m so glad someone else filmed this because I would never be able to. I’d love to have a go on the actual alpine coaster, but I would need to use the brake and have both my hands free for holding on. And a spare pair of underpants, too.
I like rollercoasters, as long as they’re not too fast or too scary – yes, I’m a bit of a wuss – but this looks like a different prospect altogether. Personally it looks more fun.
This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria, and the reason these things are unlikely to catch on around the world is the obvious need for a bloody great mountain to slide down the side of. And in the U.S., home of the lawsuit, the fear someone will sue.
I may have to visit Mieders in Austria now purely to take a ride on this alpine coaster. I’ve never heard of the place before and never really had a desire to go to Austria, but this has to make the trip worthwhile, doesn’t it?
