We all know of the amazing camouflage of the chameleon, the cuttlefish, and other creatures from the animal kingdom. Now meet a bird who does it better than most: the potoo.
Don’t worry if you can’t see him at first: that’s the point. This Brazilian species of nightjar looks just the bark of a tree. It’s an ingenious disguise allowing the bird to doze safely during the day.
If you get closer the nightjar will amp up the action, closing his big black eyes and posing just like a twig. Trust David Attenborough to introduce us to this little known marvel.
