I love Kanye (when he’s not freaking out), so naturally when I stumbled across this video that includes every song he sampled I was amazed. If you were wondering why the guy has won 10 Grammys, look no further.
Sure, it’s easy to tell in certain songs where the sample came from, but some of these take pure talent to manipulate. Who said sampling didn’t take skill? If anything, some of these are better than the original.
Hip-hop, a genre that was based on just drums and sampling, has almost lost it’s original roots in recent years. But leave it to Kanye to prove that the art isn’t dead. Here a list of a few highlights, including ones from his latest album 808’s &Heartbreak:
Highlights
- “Through The Wire” = “Through The Fire” by Chaka Khan
- “Heartless” = “Ammonie Avenue” by Alan Parsons Project
- “Coldest Winter” = “Memories Fade” by Tears For Fears
- “Touch The Sky” = “Move On Up” by Curtis Hayfield
- “Robocop” = “Kissing In The Rain” by Great Expectations
