While racing in the Amageza Qualifier in South Africa, biker Johan Gray spotted a calf drowning in a ditch. Rather than carrying on regardless, he rescued the calf from certain death. What a hero.
Personally I’m not sure what I’d have done in this situation. I don’t think I would have waded into the water myself for fear of drowning or the calf kicking me in the nuts. So I’d have probably alerted the farmer instead and let him deal with it.
The sad thing is that I can see the exact same thing happening again. With no fence as a barrier between the field and the drainage ditch what is there to stop other calves venturing into the water?
Still, that doesn’t take away from this act of mercy by Gray, and it’s nice to see some humanity being demonstrated in these harsh times.
