Meet Emily. She isn’t real, but I’d have a hard time discerning her from many models on TV. I’d say this technology is today’s equivalent of Pixar 3D cartoon animations in the 80’s.
Only this time, the kind of potential this brings about goes farther than Disney movies.
Emily here is an actual recreation of a real model that was placed into a metallic room and fired with 3,000 lights from different angles. The result is simply years ahead of any CGI effects or computer games played today.
Just imagine if this technology was used in Hollywood. Sure, actors will still be needed, but with this technology I could see people essentially “selling themselves” for production rights. Or perhaps, dead actors and actresses could be brought back to life.
The team behind this animation, Image Metrics (the same people behind Grand Theft Auto), expects the visual line between reality and computer animation to blur by the year 2020.
