When I travel, I usually bring my MP3 player along with me to kill time. It works both for long plane fights and car trips.
But for residents of Anyang, Korea, there’s a certain road that makes your car sing all by itself. Here’s one version of “Mary Had A Little Lamb” that you’ll never forget.
So how is this possible? The “music” you hear is actually produced by the harmonics of any car passing over it. The more steady you keep your speed, the clearer the melody can be heard.
The correct term for these “musical roads” is an Aspaltophone which was created in 1995 by two Danish artists. I can only wonder why more places around the world don’t have roads like this one.
It isn’t too distracting and it doubles as a low-budget tourist attraction. Now we finally know what to do with all of those 90’s ringtones.
