American Idol 2009 kicked off last night in spectacular fashion. We have a new judge, Kara DioGuardi (who?), a new format, and the same mix of brilliant and God awful auditions in front of the judges.
The absolute highlight of the show was Katrina Darell, now destined to be known as ‘Bikini Girl’ for the rest of her life. Why? Well, because she turned up to the audition in a very revealing bikini tha made the male judges day. DioGuardi wasn’t quite so impressed.
Reality TV shows live and die by those water cooler moments that have everyone talking about the show and advising their friends to watch it. I can imagine the number of male viewers shooting up massively after this particular contestant.
The thing is, she can sing. She’s not spectacularly good and won’t win the show or anything, but she can hold a tune. And surely that’s just an advantage when you’ve got a body like that and are willing to display it for all to see on national television.
