Amputee Tortoise Gets Second Chance Video | Who Needs a Leg When You’ve Got a Wheel?

21 sec read

When Gamera the 12-year-old tortoise was so badly burned that he lost a leg, he was looking a death sentence. But the vets at Washington State University weren’t going to lose him without a fight.

The team fitted a clever ball wheel in place of Gamera’s foot. The wheel works nicely, supporting his hulking 23 pound body and allowing him to forage for food. It’s almost like he hasn’t lost a limb!

And he’s also still enjoying the university’s hospitality. The staff use the tortoise as a teaching tool, which means he’s living the high life on their dime. What a happy ending!
