Andy Murray has won the Men’s Singles title at Wimbledon, much to the delight of some over-excited British people. The rest of us couldn’t care less.
Until this week it had been 77 years since a British man won the crown at Wimbledon. In fact, it had become a running joke, with Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman and others all failing to lift the trophy.
Murray managed it though, beating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in the final. More importantly, the sun shone brightly on Center Court, which is almost as rare as a British winner at Wimbledon.
I’m British and so should be excited about all of this. But I must confess I couldn’t care less. I dislike tennis, I dislike Murray, and I dislike nationalism. So this whole thing leaves me cold.
