Andy Rooney is leaving 60 Minutes after 33 years appearing on the show. He will be missed by those who see him as an institution.
Rooney can be called many things: a journalist, a broadcaster, a columnist, a complainer. But whatever you may think of him and the opinions he all-too-readily imparts on the world, you have to admit he’s become something of a legend.
Rooney is a workaholic, still putting in the hours seven days a week at the ripe old age of 92. I doubt I’ll even see that age, let alone have the energy to still be working hard.
This Sunday’s 60 Minutes will be a poignant one, with Rooney looking back over his 60-year career and then bowing out gracefully. I suspect he’ll turn up somewhere else though, just not on our TV screens every single week.
