Today is Anzac Day, the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand to commemorate those who have served for the two countries in war throughout the decades. The name refers to those who fought at Gallipoli during World War One.
This video features students at La Trobe University in Australia voicing their opinions on Anzac Day and what it means to the younger generations. Most respect it and want to see it continue.
There are a couple of people in the mix who feel Anzac Day romanticizes war too much, but I don’t happen to agree with that. We’re not celebrating war, battle, fighting to the death. Instead we’re commemorating those who fought and died to protect their country.
There’s a vast difference between glorifying war and merely remembering what people did so that they are never forgotten.
