May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, is a regional holiday celebrated in Mexico, but that doesn’t mean other nationalities haven’t caught on to the fun and good times!
Unlike other holidays, Cinco de Mayo is more of a voluntary holiday.
The celebration commemorates the ‘victory against all odds’ of the Mexican army against the French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.
While many people now days use the day as simply an excuse to party, there are still traditional types of celebrations that honor what happened in 1862.
(For me, it’s a day to party. It’s my wedding anniversary!)
