I once saw The Who’s Tommy, and I thought it was pretty far-fetched that a deaf, dumb, and blind kid could be a pinball wizard. But this video proves that those whose senses are impaired can compensate with their other senses in ways you would never imagine they could.
Ben lost both of his eyes to cancer at two years old. But his mother taught him that he could do anything that he set his mind to, and he believed it. He can play foosball and video games like nobody’s business, and he can walk down the street and tell you what objects he is passing along the way. And just look at him rollerblade!
The secret to his amazing abilities is echolocation. This is the same technique used by animals with poor eyesight, such as bats and dolphins, to get around. Ben has mastered the technique, and the result is the ability to live a substantially normal life. He’s truly an inspiration.
