Australia’s answer to the Grammys, the ARIA Awards, were held for the 25th consecutive year last night. While Gotye and Boy & Bear won the lion’s share of the shiny pointy trophies, I was most impressed by the pairing of Gurrumul and Missy Higgins.
The blind indigenous artist and the singer-songwriter came together for the most moving performance of the night. I have no idea what they were singing about, but I have a feeling that it doesn’t really matter.
This performance proves that music truly is a universal language, one which can break down barriers and impart such emotion.
