On Oct. 15, there were reports on all the major news outlets that a young boy was floating around in a giant homemade balloon and consequently in mortal danger. He wasn’t. He was sitting at home safe and sound.
The story has now evolved into questioning whether it was a hoax or not. The father of Balloon Boy (or sitting at home boy as he should more accurately be called) insists it absolutely wasn’t. But he’s milking the publicity regardless.
This video shows a press conference the father set up, at which he claimed there would be “a big announcement.” But in the end, it only lasted for around one minute and amounted to nothing more than a suggestion box for questions to be answered at a later date.
Maybe the family really did believe their boy was in the balloon. But they seem to be milking the press attention in the aftermath ever since. Which leads to the obvious conclusion that they were seeking fame in the first place.
