This video shows Barack Obama, the 44th President of the USA, admitting he made a mistake and screwed up. While his political opponents may try to use this against him, I love the fact that he’s showing how honest and human he is.
I’m so used to politicians, both in the UK and America, lying and cheating, failing to answer questions, and generally acting above the law, that Obama’s admittance of making a mistake feels like a true breath of fresh air.
The point is, we all make mistakes. You’ll have made some both in your personal and professional lives, and I certainly have. But what sets good people apart from bad ones is their ability to admit their mistakes, learn from them, and then move on.
Am I worried that this means Obama will make mistakes in the future? He was always going to, but no more than any of his predecessors did while President. Unlike George W. Bush, Obama seems willing to admit he’s not without flaws. Which is all I really ask of my leaders.
