The American President, Barack Obama, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. But does he really deserve it, honestly?
I’m a big fan of President Obama. I think he’s doing a lot of good both for the United States and the wider world. But even I think this is a colossal error of judgment on the part of the Nobel Peace Prize committee.
For starters, Obama had only been in office for 10 days when the cutoff date for nominations occurred. Whatever he may have done since, he didn’t do anything in that short space of time to warrant this honor.
Then there is the fact that Obama is the leader of a country that continues to be an unwelcome presence in countries in the Middle East. OK, so it wasn’t his administration that decided to go to war but he hasn’t yet pulled out, has he.
This looks to be a purely political decision and makes a mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize. Obama may well deserve to win it in 8 years time, but right now he clearly doesn’t. And even he knows that himself.
