The Dark Knight Rises has officially opened, with sizable crowds heading out to cinemas across the U.S. and around the world to catch the movie at midnight screenings.

This video shows raw video footage of some of the crowds gathering in New York to watch the final movie in Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy, which sees Christian Bale in the lead role.

I’ve been to midnight screenings before, including for the final Harry Potter movie last year, and there is a certain thrill in being involved. The atmosphere is usually great as everybody there is a fan.

The Dark Knight Rises is expected to take more than $1 billion at the box office, doing a sizable chunk of that business in its opening weekend. Will you be seeing it?
