Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed on screen, both on TV and in movies, dozens of times. But they’ve all been classical, literal adaptations until now.
Starting on Oct. 24, U.S. television viewers will be able to see Sherlock, the new series from the BBC, on PBS’ Mystery! The difference being that this Sherlock exists in the 21st century along with the rest of us.
Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Holmes, with Martin Freeman (who incidentally could soon be cast as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit) playing his sidekick Dr. Watson. This video shows Cumberbatch talking about the series.
It’s an interesting idea, especially with the Sherlock Holmes movie being quite traditional, even with Robert Downey Jr. playing the lead. I’m not particularly enamored with either adaptation, but what do I know?
