Japan is the spiritual home of robots. The country is leading the way in developing robots of all kinds, from big companies such as Honda to hobbyists such as Shigenori Suzuki.
He has created The Tomatan, a friendly-looking robot that runners wear on their backs. Why would they do such a thing? Because The Tomatan feeds the runner tomatoes at regular intervals during the race.
OK, we get it, tomatoes are good for you, but surely a robot that feeds you bananas would be even better.
And then there is the question of weight. The Tomatan weighs 18 pounds, which would make it a chore to carry for a race of any length. Which means I would personally rather feed the tomatoes to myself.
