This is the trailer for Bridesmaids, a new movie starring a bunch of women who organize a hen party for their soon-to-be-wed friend. If that sounds familiar then it’s no wonder, because it’s the same basic plot as employed by The Hangover.
The comparison isn’t mine, instead it’s being made by people all over the Web. And having seen The Hangover, I must admit the trailer for Bridesmaids implies a similar theme and comedic style.
While the comparisons being made between Bridesmaids and The Hangover are no doubt positive for the former, it does imply something of a copycat syndrome. The question is whether lightning will strike twice or not.
Don’t crucify me for this but I generally don’t find women as funny as men. That could just be because there are less female comedians and comedy-actors out there, so it’s a question of odds. But I’m not convinced.
