If you haven’t yet heard of Bruno, both the man and the movie, then you must have been living in a commune for the last six months. Bruno has been everywhere to promote his movie, even popping up on the Today Show with Matt Lauer.
The character of Bruno is a gay fashion designer from Austria who really wants to be famous. So he moves to the U.S. in order to make his dream come true. It does, but not quite in the way he imagines.
Bruno is played by Sacha Baron Cohen, the comedy genius who also brought us Borat. He has been around the world promoting the movie in the guise of Bruno, and some of the interviews he’s given have been almost funnier than the film itself.
I got the feeling Matt Lauer, never the most relaxed or carefree host, spends this whole interview unnerved to be in Bruno’s presence. It’s like he wants it to end and the world to swallow him up. And in the end it kind of does as the interview is prematurely ended for a Transformers 2 advert.
