Cage Against The Machine Music Video | Musicians Perform John Cage’s 4’33”

This is the music video for this year’s release of John Cage’s classic 4’33”, a song which actually comprises of nothing but silence barring the background noises made in the studio.

This is the song that campaigners are trying to get to number one ahead of The X Factor, as a rallying cry against commercialism and crappy pop. A good idea, but ultimately flawed.

The thing that really annoys me about this video is the way several of the musicians present nod or shake their heads as if they’re getting into the music. There is no music, you idiots, just silence!

Unlike last year when Rage Against The Machine made it to number one for Christmas, I think The X Factor will be successful this time around. Partly because this is a little out there for most people, and partly because Matt Cardle is singing a decent song.
