Actress Cameron Diaz has revealed her reason for waiting until she was 42 to get married. Diaz, who married singer Benji Madden, in 2015 said she never before felt she had found someone she could spend her life with.
“I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband,” Diaz said at the “In Goop Health” wellness summit in California. “I had boyfriends before, and there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends.”
Diaz said Madden was the first man she felt was her true partner in life.
“He’s just my partner in life, in everything. I’ve never had anyone who supported me so much and gave me so much courage to be myself and to really explore myself,” she said. “My husband has been able to show me what it’s like to be an equal. And I’ve learned so much from him. I look at him every day and he inspires me. I feel so lucky.”
The actress says they are both just weird enough for each other. She calls him her “perfect little weirdo.”
At the summit, Diaz also opened up about her exercise routine and transcendental meditation practice. Working out, she says, gets her out of the door in the morning before she does her transcendental meditation.
Diaz, who has been doing transcendental meditation for five years, says the practice has completely transformed her life.
“It allowed space, grounded me,” she said.
Diaz says that the practice is something you have to do consistently to truly reap the benefits. The actress tries to get in two sessions of meditation each day.
Before her sessions, she says she feels like “broken glass.”
“As soon as I meditate,” she says, “I feel whole again. All the pieces come back in, and I can see clearly, think clearly, and be grounded and energized.”
