Alan Turing is the new face of the £50 note. For those unfamiliar with Turing’s story, this is a fitting tribute to a genius who was treated abominably.
Alan Turing was a pioneering mathematician and World War II codebreaker. His work breaking Nazi codes at Bletchley Park literally saved thousands of lives.
Unfortunately, rather than being rewarded and lauded for his work, Turing was subjected to hate and hostility thanks to being a homosexual. He took his life after being chemically castrated.
Turing has since been pardoned and the British government has apologized. And now he’s going to be celebrated by being the face of the new £50 note.
