Being a mother of two and returning from retirement hasn’t stopped Chantelle Newberry from impressing people. Then again, being the first Australian diver to bring home a gold medal since 1924 does take a lot of talent.
Newberry got her start in athletics in tumbling, but she broke her ankle at 15 at the world championships. While she was healing from the injury, she took to diving to keep active.
She liked it so much and the transition was so easy that she switched for good. In 1996 she moved to Brisbane (Austrlia) to train, which is also where she met her husband.
While she admits to having a hard time balancing diving, motherhood, and marriage, she still loves all three and manages to keep up with all three most of the time.
