A 200-pound chimp that was being kept as a pet in a house in Connecticut has attacked its owner and a neighbor. The police ended up being called and shot the chimp dead, but not before it had wreaked terrible damage.
The female neighbor of the woman who owned the chimp is now in a critical condition in hospital. The chimp reportedly bit both her hands off before carrying on eating. The owner then proceeded to stab the chimp several times with a butcher’s knife.
The chimp then escaped before police arrived and shot the animal. And rightly so. However, I do have some sympathy for the animal because it should never have been kept as a pet in the first place.
Anyone who has seen chimps in a zoo will realize they are capable of aggressive and violent behavior, especially when they are in a pack or feel threatened. The fact remains that this chimp shouldn’t have been where it was, and then it would never have attacked any human.
