Some television ads are so famous they’ve come to represent a change in the psyche of consumers or a big shift in the way we buy products. So it is with the classic 1984 ad by Apple.
It was shown during the 1984 Super Bowl and is inspired by the Orwell novel, 1984. It shows the might of IBM, then the be all and end all of PC manufacturers, being overthrown by Apple.
This video shows a clever remake from DoubleTwist, which makes software to make iTunes more accessible. This time, it’s Apple, in the form of its CEO Steve Jobs, that is the dictator in charge of everyone.
It’s a brilliant concept to take something iconic and turn it on its head. And the truth is that Apple has become the new IBM, forcing people to use certain software with its products and such.
DoubleTwist made the ad to herald a new product due to be unveiled on Oct. 6. And this has certainly piqued my interest.
