This giant squid that was caught by fishermen has been sitting on ice for a while now, waiting for scientist to dissect and view it. They took the squid off ice this week and began the defrosting to find that the squid has eyes as big as a soccer ball!
That makes this squid’s eyes the largest in the world, measuring 11 inches across. He (haven’t heard if it is a he or she) also measure 26 feet long and weighs 1100 pounds. Now this is really a Jules Vern novel come to life.
It is kind of sad that such a rare specimen was caught and chopped up just to see what we can see, but that’s just the way people are. I guess it wouldn’t be a true fish tale without the fish tail.
