Music videos vary wildly in terms of quality and effort. Some groups put in lots of effort, working out how to make the best music video they can, with inventive uses of technology, a storyline, or stunning visuals.
Other groups put very little effort in to their music videos, relying on footage of themselves playing live, or really not bothering to tax their creative muscle at all. Japanese band, Sour, are not like that at all, with their music video for Hibi No Neiro being stunning.
It uses nothing more than webcams to create some stunning visuals which must have taken some accurate choreography to create. The people in the video are all Sour fans, with the criteria seeming to be the ownership of a good webcam and an impeccable sense of timing.
I just wish more music videos were of this quality, because it would make music television much more enjoyable to watch. As it is, too many bands just resort to the simple, tried and tested methods which make for boring music videos.
Which is a shame, especially as this video made me listen to this band for the first time ever. And I like the song so much I’m going to seek out more of their stuff. Thus proving the power of a good video promo.
