I just visited the Break video website not too long ago, and I found this very cool video of a daring teenager riding on the roof of a school bus. To the average viewer the video looks amazing; it’s a high schoolers dream!
Unfortunately, the video is a fake. And I can prove it.
Within seconds of viewing the video I knew what I was seeing: CGI. The shadows and reflections are convincing, but CGI nevertheless like the Haiti UFOs. Notice the convenient blurriness and flawless lawns. After reading all the comments on Break I was shocked to find out that no one had yet picked up on this!
So I began my search for anything that looked unrealistic just to prove my point. After downloading the video and scanning though each frame, it came to me. The true giveaway wasn’t in the brilliant graphics at all, there is an intentional giveaway:
The Giveaway Frame
I call this the “giveaway frame” where it is revealed that the “students” riding the bus aren’t students at all but CGI cartoon characters. Since the video is very blurry and since I no longer watch cartoons, I may be wrong on some of the characters. Here they are anyways:
- Red Circle: A fox?
- Blue Circle: A cartoon bear with hammerhead-shark-like eyes.
- Green Circle: Is that fu*kin’ Scooby-Doo?!
- Pink Circle: A Keebler Elf?
- Brown Circle: A cute teddy bear (or Bambi? God, I’m old).
- Black Circle: Bullwinkle from Rocky & Bullwinkle (or McBush?).
I realize that I may be entirely off on some (or even most) of these guesses. The point is, there are no real students riding inside the bus.
If you’re still not convinced, then consider this last obvious giveaway. Being the geeky audio engineer student that I am, I noticed this right off the bat: the bus is too quiet. Nice try foley n00bs! (Wikipedia link for you non-audio geeks).
Again, sorry to burst everyone’s bubble on the video, but it is indeed a fake debunked for the first time by yours truly at WebTvHub. My guess it that it’s some sort of viral promo for Cartoon Network. Perhaps this will inspire a future real-life video? (Hint hint.)
