I’ve seen some pretty amazing mimics in my time, but few are as convincing as the Sargassum fish. This clever critter looks so much like the Sargassum plant, he manages to fool everyone in the ocean.
The Sargassum fish hangs out amongst the plant’s leaves and waits. As curious fish swim by his lightening-fast reflexes serve him well. They’re gone before they can cry “Help, I’m being eaten by a plant!”
This natural plant disguise is pretty cool, but it’s not where the Sargassum fish’s appeal ends. I’ve never seen a fish with finger-like fins, or one which is so transparent I could watch him devour his meal!
