Saturday night saw Cris Cyborg and Gina Carano come together to close out the Showtime Strikeforce show in the HP Pavilion at San Jose. After a brutal fight where neither girl held back, Cyborg was declared the winner.
MMA is Mixed Martial Arts and it sees competitors employ a number of different fighting styles including wrestling, kickboxing, and jujitsu. Usually seen as a sport for big burly men, women’s MMA is growing in stature.
Although the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) seem to have no interest in developing women’s MMA, the female side of the sport is getting attention. And with such a brutal yet entertaining show such as this on display it’s easy to see why.
The Cyborg vs. Carano fight only lasted one round, with Cyborg (great nickname) being declared the winner just one second before the bell rang. The fight ended after Cyborg landed 12 successive blows to Carano’s face, making her slightly less attractive in the process.
