The Australian state of Queensland seems to have suffered more than its fair share of bad luck lately. A month after being covered by floodwaters, it’s been hit by category 5 Cyclone Yasi.
Yasi is the strongest tropical storm to ever hit Australia, with winds of up to 300 km/h battering towns in the state’s north including popular tourist spots Mission Beach, Dunk Island, and Cairns.
Thankfully as I write there are no reports of injuries or loss of life, although Queensland’s buildings and infrastructure has not fared so well. For a state already struggling to rebuild following the floods, this disaster could not have come at a worse time.
