Whenever I watch the end of The Return Of The Jedi and Darth Vader takes his helmet off, I always wonder why he has a blues harmonica strapped to his mouth like a one man band.
I know it’s meant to be the voice unit which gives his voice that unnerving raspy, wheezing quality, but it sure looks like a mouth organ to me.
So when I first saw this video, I immediately wondered why no-one had made a similar one before!
This is very well done, with the looks on Luke Skywalker’s face fitting in perfectly to the action, and the editing adding enough humour without going overboard.
I suppose the effects in the seventies when this film was made weren’t quite so refined, and it probably is a harmonica which has been refashioned to make Dave Prowse sound more like James Earl Jones.
Regardless, it’s a great video, and it had me in stitches of laughter. If you like this video, check out the Top 10 Greatest Star Wars Sounds.
