It’s early days in season seven of American Idol, but already 17-year-old David Archuleta is emerging as a serious contender. Singing a song from the 70s, a period long before he was born, may have been a challenge for some kids. But not David.
When I heard he was singing John Lennon’s Imagine I was a little nervous for him. That is such a big song, simple in melody but with bucketloads of heart. Yet David interpreted it like a pro, with a sensitivity and maturity beyond his years.
But David’s not just super talented. Judging by the squeals in the studio, the girls love him too. You just know they’re going to vote in droves to keep this talented teen in the competition.
