There have been a spate of Day Of Rage protests around the world in recent months. But while some have overthrown governments and achieved real change, the Day Of Rage in New York is unlikely to change anything at all.
Peaceful protesting is fine, but to expect any real change to occur using this method is unlikely. It has to turn ugly before governments really take notice, and even then they won’t go down without a fight.
New Yorkers, and U.S. citizens as a whole, aren’t trying to topple President Obama by any means other than an election, but they are protesting against Wall Street, the bailing out of the big banks, and the planned spending cuts.
The problem is that compared to people in most countries, Americans have it good. The same is true of the U.K., Canada, and most European countries. As Jaime previously pointed out, the New York Day Of Rage amounted to very little.
