Over the weekend the world lost one of its most loved animals, Knut the Polar Bear. The popular Berlin Zoo resident was just four years old. This video captures his final moments.
I probably don’t need to tell you that this clip is pretty distressing. But it may hold clues as to why this polar bear was cut down in his prime. Already zoo critics are complaining about animal welfare issues, but we probably won’t learn exactly what went on until autopsy results are released.
To put it in perspective for you, the average polar bear lives between 15 and 20 years. In captivity however, polar bears can live for much longer. Knut, we lost you far too soon.
