Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Died News (Video)

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who had went from being ina coma to being in a semi-conscious state since his 2008 car accident, just died early Saturday morning at age 42. The band’s vocalist Chino Moreno confirmed Cheng’s passing on his Facebook page. He was an amazing bassist and will be dearly missed by millions of fans and loved ones.

“Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I’m praying that his strength will get him through this,” Moreno wrote on the Deftone’s blog after the car accident had occurred and their bandmate was struggling to break free from a coma.

In a statement posted on the fan site Oneloveforchi.com, Cheng’s family writes that the musician was taken to the emergency room where he died at 3 a.m. His heart had just stopped beating even though in the years following the accident he had been steadily recovering from his coma, reaching a state where he could move his legs on command.

Now the famous Cheng family statement that has been running viral till Deftones decides to give their sentiments on their friend’s death:

“This is the hardest thing to write to you. Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing. I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you. He was taken to the emegency room and at 3 am today his heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.”
