Susan Boyle started the Britain’s Got Talent final as the runaway favorite. Many people, including the bookies, assumed victory was assured for the Scottish virgin. But it wasn’t to be. Because Diversity managed to overcome the odds and beat Boyle to the win.
I’ve loved Diversity from the first round, when they showed commitment, companionship, and choreography can turn a bunch of friends into a world-beating dance troupe. They weren’t as tight as Flawless but their routines were always more entertaining.
They got better and better, and saved their best performance until last. Their routine in the final, as can be seen in the above video, is probably the most inventive I’ve ever seen. You cannot take your eyes off them the whole way through.
I wish Susan Boyle all the best, and she’s hardly going to struggle make ends meet after the way everyone took her to their hearts in the earlier rounds, but Diversity are deserving winners of Britain’s Got Talent 2009.
