The problem with giving out promo episodes is the possibility of a leak. In this case, 8 (and counting) episodes of the new Australian hit drama “Underbelly” have been leaked online. That’s more than half of the entire 13-episode season.
While only 4 episodes have officially aired, the number of people illegally downloading the screeners has reached into the thousands.
Leaks for promos and pilots have happened before, so why should this be such a big deal? David Vaile, executive director of Cyberspace Law, thinks that it certainly is and is determined to “track down any culprits.”
Still, even with the leak, the show is one of the highest rated shows in Australia; pulling in 1.27 million viewers last week. Despite the fact that “It seems like everyone has them”, such a leak could possibly be mean more exposure to the series.
Underbelly Promo
This is the official promo for Underbelly. Even though this video, along with other clips, have been taken off the official website, many clips can be found on YouTube.
Banned in Victoria
Due to a gangland murder case, the show was banned by Justice Betty King in Victoria where it is deemed inappropriate. Viewers in any other state in Australia are able to watch the show. The ban will be lifted once the trial is complete.
