This new report tells how one dad got so drunk he had to be driven home by his nine-year-old daughter. A misdemeanor for which he received 15 years in jail. For child abuse, bizarrely.
OK, so this guy did wrong. He shouldn’t have got so drunk as to need his daughter to drive him home. He shouldn’t have asked her to do so. He shouldn’t have put her in that position.
However, at least he didn’t drink and drive, which would have more likely resulted in someone being killed or injured. Especially as the daughter seemed to be an accomplished driver.
And 15 years in prison for this offense? That seems very excessive when people who have killed or raped can get away with spending less time inside. Idiocy? Sure. Justice? I’m not convinced.
